Why I thought
of starting
a picture book company.
なぜ、
絵本の会社を
設立したのか。

“自信がついた” “夢が見れた” “勇気が出た”
一人でも多くの人にそう笑って言ってもらえる作品に携わりたいと思い、
11年前からエンターテイメント業に関わり始めました。
そして7年前から現在に至るまで、CM,MV,映画などの映像や舞台の制作,演出,脚本を中心に行ってまいりました。
そんな中、2019年初頭にコロナウイルス感染症が流行し始め、
エンターテインメント業界は世界的に大きな打撃を受けました。
私自身も、2020年春に公演予定だった舞台の演出をしておりましたが、その影響を受けて中止となり、
そこから想像もしていなかった新しい世界に変わってしまいました。
ただ悪い事ばかりでもなく、何かと忙しなかった日々から一転、家で過ごす機会が増え、
様々なことをゆっくりと考える時間を多く持てる機会にもなりました。
様々なものに目を向けている中で、”差別問題や疎外感から不安を抱えている人々”のことが
取り上げられているものがコロナ禍前よりも目に止まるようになり、
「この問題と真摯に向き合い、解決へと向かう道は作れるのだろうか」
今まで以上にこの問題についてよく調べるようになりました。
“自信がついた” “夢が見れた” “勇気が出た”
と言ってもらえるモノがこんな時にこそ、より必要なのではないか？
そう思っていると、ふと、幼い頃よく母と作ったり読んだりしていた絵本の記憶が蘇ってきました。
私のベースとなる部分を作り、時には私自身を支えてくれていたであろう絵本…
シンプルなのにインパクトがあり、私の頭の中に今も印象に残っている絵本がたくさんある。
絵本が持つ力は、私が思っているよりもはるかに大きいものなのではないだろうか？
情報過多となりつつある現代社会で、原点に立ち返り、多くの人にずっと届けたかった想いや願いを
誰もが親しみを持っている絵本にのせてまっすぐに届けていきたいと思い、
この株式会社ディトシティを立ち上げました。
"I became confident" "I felt encouraged"
About 11 years ago, I started involving in the entertainment industry because
I wanted to engage and be part of the work that can give hopes to as many people as possible.
Until now, I have been mainly working to be part of the production
and screenplay for the commercials, music videos and movies for 7 years.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 happened and it was a serious blow to the whole world and
it also badly affected our entertainment industry.
Due to unforeseen situation, the production that I was supposed to direct got cancelled
and our world has changed to something we never imagined.
We were forced to stay home and being inside of my house
actually made me have emotional leeway and gave me some time to think.
During the lockdown, I have noticed some social issues that are on the media, especially about “the people who have experienced discrimination and felt excluded from the society”
and I started thinking to myself,
“Is there any way that we can all take sincere care of this issue and find a way to get close to a solution?” so that is how i started looking.
One day, I thought that we need something
to make us feel confident and encouraged, more than ever.
And I thought about my childhood,
I was always with my mother making and reading picture books.
It is simple but because of the great impact of the design and the exciting story,
I still remember all of my favorite books that i used to read. And I think that all the feelings
that I felt from the picture book became a big part of who I am today.
The power of picture books could be powerful and influential more than we think.
In our society, we deal with too much information, but we go back to the starting point
and we will deliver happiness that we all deserve with our picture books.
